Four Injured In Hit-and-Run Bus Crash

Police have reported that they are currently searching for two people who are responsible for crashing into a bus bench in North Miami. The crash caused serious injury to four people, including an 11-year-old girl.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., witnesses stated that “the car went through the stop sign and ran just right over the people on the bus bench." Both Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and North Miami Police responded to the scene of the incident near Northeast 12th Avenue. The witness stated that two young men emerged from the crashed car and ran south down Northeast 11th Place towards the train tracks. She stated that she called 911 and followed them as far as she could at a safe distance. However, the two men escaped.

In total, four people were injured. Two victims were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center. Another victim was pinned by the car and suffered serious injuries. The 11-year-old girl, Chelsea Romain, suffered only minor injuries. She told reports that, "[It was] very scary, very, very scary…I didn't even see it coming; if I saw that car coming, I should have told everyone to get out the way. It's very bad. I don't like this." The witness who called the police concluded that, "I think it's really sad…You know, if it was an accident, you know, you hit the gas whatever, at least stop and see how the people are."

Police are trying to determine what caused the driver to crash into the bus bench. Police are also looking at surveillance video in an attempt to identify and locate the suspects. If you have information on this crime, please call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Those who call can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
