Fatal Florida Highway Accidents Hit 33-Year Low in 2011

One of the many functions of the state government is to work towards protecting the safety of the people who use public roads. This is done in many ways, and one of the manners in which progress is measured is by way of keeping track of fatal Florida car accident statistics. One of the main statistics used by the state involves fatalities that occurred in Florida highway accidents. There has recently been some positive news released in this regard.

According to the governmental agencies who track these statistics, the number of people who were killed in Florida highway accidents during 2011 fell to 2,373. That represents a drop of 71 people as compared to 2010, and it also represents the lowest total number of fatalities on Florida highways in the past 33 years. That is particularly significant since the population of Florida has nearly doubled in that time.

Florida Car Accident Statistics

While we’d like to applaud the efforts of everyone who worked to reduce the number of fatal Florida highway accidents, it still means that almost 200 people per month were killed on highways during 2011. This represents the majority of people who are typically killed in Florida car accidents of all types. Every year, approximately 3,000 people are killed and nearly 200,000 people are injured in crashes that occur on all roads.
